Equality for Women and Girls
18th July 2017, 9am - 5pm
at Mulberry School for Girls, London E1 2JP
Mulberry School for Girls is pleased to announce the 24th Global Classrooms London Model United Nations conference. The event is part of the UNAUSA’s Global Classrooms MUN programme. Mulberry is proud to be the lead school in the UK for this worldwide network and the largest MUN programme for secondary schools in the UK. At these professional conferences, students play the role of ambassadors in simulations of UN committees. Our events have a warm, supportive atmosphere and aim to promote co-operation, leadership, public speaking skills and confident global citizenship among young people.
GCLMUN conferences consist of several student-led committees debating different topics, with between thirty and fifty countries in each. Once schools are registered we will allocate each of your students a country and a committee. In the lead up to the conference, delegates are expected to research their country's stance on the given topic, and prepare a Position Paper outlining this. We will provide research packs and templates for the papers through our website. During the conference, through discussion and negotiation, committees will work towards a resolution on how the international community should respond to the topic. We will also have some exciting expert speakers addressing delegates.
Our young delegates will be debating how the international community can achieve equality for women and girls. The world needs new ideas and, at GCLMUN, students as ambassadors will consider this pressing issue, work together and take action as the United Nations.
GCLMUN welcomes students aged thirteen to eighteen from state-funded, non-selective schools from London. Young people must attend as part of a school delegation and cannot register individually. Our respected programme also attracts international schools from around the world. This provides participants with the opportunity to engage with peers from other backgrounds and cultures. As a guide, we recommend returning schools bring delegations of up to 25 students, and new schools delegations of up to 10. Please note that places this year are limited so we unfortunately cannot guarantee places for all interested schools.
For UK schools there will be a £20 registration fee per school and a £15 fee per delegate for places at the conference. For international schools, there is a £100 registration fee per school, and a £50 fee per delegate. Invoices will be posted to you before the event. Please note that we are obliged to charge for places which are cancelled less than one month prior to the conference.
Experienced MUN delegates looking to develop their leadership skills may apply to be a Committee Chairperson. They can do so through our website, but please note that only students from registered schools may apply since they are not permitted to attend the conference independently. Successful applicants will be required to attend weekly after-school training sessions at Mulberry School. Students who are active in MUN at university level may apply to be a Committee Director through our Director General, who manages the recruitment of that team.
